Restaurant of the Month: Oyster House

by Dana Ubele

Quality seafood, great prices

I am never disappointed when I dine at Oyster House. The experience is well worth the trip over the Ben Franklin. This Philadelphia institution has been at its current location on Sansom Street since 1969, but the Oyster House name has been serving up only the freshest fish since 1947. Frequent flyers of this family owned legacy may opt for their “Buck-a-Shuck” happy hour specials while others prefer their full seasonal menu.

charm your tastebuds

The ambiance is unmatched by any other local seafood joint with whimsical oyster plates plastered on all the walls- it makes me feel like I’m on the Chesapeake Bay shucking oysters! No need to do that dirty work here. Watch in awe as professionals shuck what seems to be 100 oysters a minute at the superlative raw bar.

Cin Cin!

Don’t miss out on wine pairings which elevate the flavors of each unique dish. I highly recommend the palate cleansing Chenin Blancwith bold, smoky Soft-Shell Crabs. For dessert- house made ice cream of course! If you’re feeling a little full from the delectable courses you just devoured, the Oyster House is walking distance to iconic Rittenhouse Square. Take a stroll, enjoy the summer air and reflect on the wonderful meal you just consumed. Bon Appetit!
